Welcome to the website of Paul Egan, Mediator. I am one of the leading Mediators in Ireland. In this field and I have a vast amount of experience.

The notion that most people want black robed judges, well dressed lawyers, and fine panelled court rooms as a setting for resolving their disputes is not correct. People with problems, like people with pains, want relief, and they want it as quickly and inexpensively as possible’ (Warren E. Burger, former Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court 1969-1986).

I graduated from Queens University Belfast with an MSSc (mediation studies). I am certified mediator with the Mediators Institute of Ireland specialising in separating couples, family mediation, workplace mediation and debt resolution.

Mediation is a process that is used to settle a dispute among parties. It is a safe environment in which respect and confidentiality are upheld. In my role of mediator I assist communication which works towards reaching an agreement without favouring a particular outcome. Mediation as a process where an independent, neutral mediator(s) assists the parties to come to agreement through collaborative engagement. My role is non-judgmental and non-directive. I am neither judge nor arbitrator, I do not adjudicate or give decisions on the rights or wrongs of the actions of the parties. I support the parties in identifying their issues and needs in exploring how those needs can be addressed I facilitate them to reach agreement. Mediation is suitable for the following:

  • In single-issue and multi-issue disputes
  • In two-party and multi-party conflicts
  • In developing innovative and sustainable solutions when parties are willing but stuck
  • As a preventative intervention early in a conflict
  • As an alternative to avoid further costly public litigation.

The mediation process improves communication, narrows outstanding issues, defuses emotions and defines areas of agreement.
Since 2008, I have worked in private practice as an independent conflict specialist, delivering discrete interventions to conflict. My clients include government departments, semi-state bodies, health-care providers, private sector, businesses and voluntary organisations.

My mediation intervention adheres to a six step plan.
